Courageous. Passionate. Inspiring. Gracious.
There aren’t enough words to describe Congressman Elijah Cummings and what he meant to our community. Like many across the nation, we were heartbroken when we learned of his passing.
Elijah just wasn’t a congressman, he was our congressman. He represented the 7th district for 23 years and before that, he spent more than a decade in the Maryland House of Delegates. He dedicated his life to public service and as a champion for his constituents in Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Howard County; he fought for the inherent dignity of all people.
Congressman Cummings was not only a friend, but also the backbone of our party. He inspired us to believe in a cause greater than ourselves and to fight for our values. We are forever grateful for his steadfast and irreplaceable leadership. He left a lasting imprint on our hearts and minds and his legacy will reverberate throughout Maryland and our nation for generations to come.
May we honor his memory by living with purpose, emulating his passion, and fighting to secure social justice for all.
Our deepest condolences to his wife, Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, and his daughters. Our hearts go out to the rest of his family, friends and staff.
