THIS WEEK’S GUEST: MICHELLE RISHER, TRANS VISIBILITY & RIGHTS
Few roads in the human experience could be more arduous and taxing than that of the transgender in contemporary United States.
Few have for decades fought the battles for visibility and rights more consistently and determinedly than this week’s guest, the DNC’s own MICHELLE RISHER.
Elected to the national body from her home state of Oregon in late 2020, Michelle has championed not only causes important to the Trans Movement, but also for many marginalized communities throughout the country.
Michelle has risen through the ranks, working very locally at the grassroots level for years before she was recognized to hold ranking office at her county level. From there, she moved to the state level and was elected Vice Chair for the Democratic Party of Oregon, one of the highest achievements for any Trans person in the history of the Democratic Party, and the nation.
Michelle was the second transgender person ever elected to the DNC.
Let’s take a moment to reflect on that achievement. Wow.
Few are able to speak of the movement in its entirety from where Michelle has seen it: its virtual start.
We will discuss the burgeoning national conversation and controversies surrounding the Trans Movement and its opposition, often from the GOP, Right, and Far Right Extremists.
We will also discuss disturbing trends toward violence and murder among Trans individuals, state level legislation aimed at excising medical and other Trans rights, and make sure to examine the more hopeful horizons of tolerance gleaming in the near-term future.
Now is a time to hold up champions of the Trans Movement, to educate and inspire our society to rise above the fear and acrimony that has become an existential threat to every Trans individual in the country.
We are doing our part by sharing the incredible activist who is Michelle Risher, and we hope you can join us.
